Conditioning of boiler feedwater

Steam boilers operate round the clock at high pressures and temperatures. Therefore the water that is fed to the boiler must remain at the optimum chemical equilibrium so that the boiler and its equipment are not attacked. This is because the minerals left behind after the boiler feedwater has been evaporated take the form of deposits which can have aggressive effects on the boiler system pipework.

The chemicals for regulating the hardness of the boiler feedwater and its pH value are similar to those used for treating drinking water (e.g. ammoniac solutions, caustic soda). Oxygen bonding agents such as hydrazine and other anti-corrosion protection methods are employed to successful effect. Lutz-Jesco dosing pumps are used for feeding the various liquid chemicals, and Lutz-Jesco measurement and control technology products are used for control purposes.
