On 22 August 2012, the US Securities and Exchange Commission implemented the provisions of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank Act) of 2010 and is-sued regulations on reporting and disclosure regarding the use of so-called ‘conflict minerals’.
Companies listed on the US stock exchange are required to disclose in an annual report to the US Securities and Exchange Commission whether their products contain conflict minerals that are nec-essary for their function or production.
The aim of this regulation is to curb trade in conflict minerals originating from mines in the Demo-cratic Republic of Congo (DRC) or a neighbouring country that contribute to the financing of armed conflicts there.
Conflict minerals as defined by the Dodd-Frank Act are the following minerals and their derivatives (also known as 3TG; as of 1 January 2013):
• Tantalum
• Tin
• Tungsten
• Gold
