New modular canister pumping station increases occupational safety in industry and trade
Wertheim, January 7, 2025 - Hand pumps pose risks in industry and trade. They can endanger occupational safety and encourage carry-over between tanks. To prevent this, Lutz Pumpen has developed a new modular pumping unit - one of the few that is especially suitable for use in canisters. Thanks to an attachable battery motor, users can equip several canisters with pumping units, switch between them flexibly and pump liquids safely and automatically.
Many companies in industry and trade use hand pumps to pump liquids from canisters - such as hydraulic oils for machine maintenance or cleaning agents for systems in the food industry. "These pumps often work inefficiently and are ergonomically unfavorable, as the filling process takes place on the knees in intermediate containers," explains Andreas Rössler, Sales Manager at Lutz Pumpen GmbH. "Hand pumps also harbor risks: Liquids can splash or spill, resulting in a risk of slipping or skin contact with harmful substances." There is also a risk of contamination of various tanks through carry-over. "To increase occupational safety, we have developed a new modular pumping station that is one of the few on the market designed specifically for use in canisters. Companies can use it to equip their containers and switch between them with an attachable motor in order to pump liquids safely and automatically."
Canister pumping units compatible with a wide range of canister sizes and media
The new pumping stations are compatible with the most common canister sizes. They are available in lengths of 400 mm, 500 mm and 700 mm and have S60 and S70 threads, which are widely used in tank technology and for chemicals. The pumping unit is made of polyethylene (PE), while the hose and fittings are made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) - materials that are known for their durability and resistance to chemicals. The shaft is made of stainless steel, which offers high mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. "This combination of materials can be used to pump a wide range of media - including low-viscosity mineral oils, cooling lubricants, disinfectants, diesel, flame retardants, fungicides and insecticides as well as various cleaning and disinfection products," says Rössler. The robust design increases resistance to abrasion and external influences, extends the service life of the pumping stations and ensures their reliability in industrial applications.
Empty a 200-liter canister 12 times with one battery charge
Once the pumping units have been inserted into the canisters, users can install the B2 Battery battery motor from Lutz Pumpen using a quick-release fastener and start pumping immediately. The brushless DC motor with 260 watts of power achieves a maximum speed of 12,000 revolutions per minute and enables a delivery rate of up to 6 liters of liquids with a maximum viscosity of 400 mPas. One charge of the replaceable battery is enough to completely empty a 200-liter canister twelve times in around 35 minutes.
