Lutz-Jesco donates 50,000 euros for emergency care in Wertheim

Wertheim, May 15, 2025 - On Tuesday, May 12, 2025, Heinz Lutz, Managing Director of Lutz-Jesco GmbH, presented a donation of 50,000 euros to Mayor Markus Herrera Torrez. The support will go towards emergency care at the new citizens' hospital in Wertheim, a charitable institution that relies on financial assistance.

Lutz-Jesco is making a contribution to secure future emergency care in Wertheim. The company presented a donation of 50,000 euros on Monday, May 12, 2025. Lord Mayor Markus Herrera Torrez and Klaus Thoma, Mayor of the market town of Kreuzwertheim and Chairman of the "Bürgerspital Wertheim" support association, accepted the grant. "We would like to thank the Lutz-Jesco company for their generous donation. It helps us to finance the municipal deficit contribution for emergency care," explained Torrez at the handover.

"As a company with regional roots, it is very important to us to support local medical care," emphasized Managing Director Heinz Lutz. "With our donation, we would like to make a contribution to strengthening emergency care at the Bürgerspital Wertheim and to honor the dedicated work of the employees."

Non-profit Bürgerspital Wertheim ensures emergency care after the closure of the Red Cross Clinic

Heart attack, stroke or a fall from a ladder: in emergencies, a nearby hospital can make the difference between life and death. It is therefore all the more dramatic that many hospitals are under pressure - according to a survey conducted by the German Hospital Institute (DKI) in spring 2024, 61% of German hospitals rate their economic situation as poor. Hospitals in rural regions are often particularly hard hit, struggling with a shortage of skilled staff and lower capacity utilization due to increasing urbanization.

A sad example of this systemic crisis is the Red Cross Clinic in Wertheim. It was forced to close in June 2024, with serious consequences for the region: emergency patients suddenly had to switch to clinics further away, which in some cases entailed additional risks. The closure was also a cultural turning point for the people of the region. The history of the hospital goes back to 1359, when a hospital in Wertheim was first mentioned in a document.

The focus should not be on profit, but on medical care for the population

But the region took action: After its closure, the town of Wertheim took over the hospital building. Together with the Westfalenklinik Group, it developed a new concept: the Bürgerspital Wertheim. The special feature: In future, the non-profit facility will no longer focus on profit, but on medical care for the population. To this end, the city agreed to make annual compensation payments of 2.75 million euros. To this end, it receives support from the Main-Tauber district and companies from the region.
