Better than tendonitis: conveniently pump lubricating grease with a cordless screwdriver
Norcross/Georgia, February 18, 2026 – In the US, billions of dollars are spent each year due to ergonomic strain in the workplace. This also includes pumping lubricating grease with hand pumps. The solution from Lutz Pumpen: a mobile pump powered by a cordless screwdriver. The device is on display at the Lubricant Expo North America trade fair from March 17–19, 2026, in Huntington Place in Detroit (Booth 222).
Sometimes, seemingly insignificant activities can end careers. For example: An employee of an agricultural business is responsible for maintaining the vehicle fleet. As part of his daily tasks, he has to pump viscous lubricating grease into the central lubrication systems of the vehicles with a hand pump. After a few months, he develops chronic tendonitis and is no longer able to work.
Physical strain results in costs of $13.7 billion
Physical strain due to poor ergonomic conditions is a widespread problem across the USA. It has been the leading cause of lost productivity costs for 25 years in all industries. The annual damages amount to US$13.7 billion, according to the Liberty Mutual Workplace Safety Index 2025¹, an annual analysis by the largest employer insurance company.
“High employee absenteeism rates also place a massive burden on employers,” says Markus Seitenberg, managing director of industrial pump specialist Lutz Pumps North America. “For these reasons, we always take ergonomics into account in the development of new products. One example is the new Lutz Lube Drive pump, which reduces physical strain when handling grease and thus prevents work-related injuries.”
No heavy motor, no cables to trip over, just a cordless screwdriver
Unlike traditional hand pumps, the Lutz Lube Drive delivers grease automatically and without any physical exertion. The user simply places the pump unit in a container with a maximum capacity is 60 kg. The pump does not require a heavy motor, which could cause back problems, or electrical cables, which could become a tripping hazard.
Instead, users can operate the device with a standard cordless screwdriver. A helical metal shaft then conveys all commercially available NLGI 2 greases from the container directly through a hose into the central lubrication system. “The Lutz Lube Drive reduces physical strain on employees, particularly in agriculture, construction, transportation, and industrial maintenance, where daily lubrication often leads to overexertion,” says Markus Seitenberg.
