* The maximum flow rate is a value determined by means of a test bench and measured with water at a liquid temperature of approx. 20 °C . The measurement is taken at the pressure joint of the pump, without hose, nozzle or flow meter. The achievable flow rate in use is lower and depends on the individual application, the liquid properties and the configuration of the pump. The max. delivery head also depends on the pump design, motor and fluid. The viscosity values are determined with oil.
** Test assembly: Medium water / diesel, flow in preferred direction, settling section 0.2 m upstream and downstream of flow meter
Lutz does not currently offer any battery-powered drum pumps with ATEX approval for potentially explosive areas. Only fully explosion-proof drive systems may be used for flammable media such as ethanol.
The reason for this lies in the safety requirements. Batteries are potential ignition sources as they can generate heat or sparks in the event of a fault. In hazardous areas, however, the entire system consisting of the motor, energy source and electrical wiring must be ATEX-compliant. Individual protected components are not sufficient.
As soon as the application is located in a hazardous area, the use of an explosion-proof drum pump is mandatory. This applies regardless of the quantity being pumped or whether the application is stationary or takes place at different locations.
For such applications, we recommend using a drum pump with:
- ATEX-certified electric motor or compressed air motor
- Suitable earthing to prevent electrostatic charging
- Media-resistant materials for ethanol
If a mobile solution is to be implemented, it can be checked whether the power supply can be positioned outside the Ex zone or whether a compressed air-powered version is more suitable.
The specific design should always be based on the zone classification, the operational safety requirements and the desired delivery rate.
