Lime-carbonic acid equilibrium in water works

Certain components in drinking water react with each other and create new chemical compounds. Such reactions depend on the ratio of the components in the water. The chemical equilibrium between two such components, carbon dioxide and calcium carbonate, is referred to as the "lime-carbonic acid equilibrium". This essentially determines the lime precipitation / take-up into solution character of the water. A stabile equilibrium is essential to ensure consistent drinking water quality.

Diaphragm dosing pumps and other dosing accessories from Lutz-Jesco are used to provide a complete feeding system of liquid lime water, milk of lime or orthophosphate in water works. In this way a sustained stabilisation of the hardness of the drinking water is achieved.
